Tryout Related Q & A

Q: How can I tryout for FC Valencia?

A: Each player is required to register prior to trying out. Registration can be done ONLINE or PRINT a copy of the same form and bring with you.

Q: What do I need to bring for tryouts?

A: Bring plenty of water, training attire including cleats and shin guards, and appropriate size ball.

Q: What can you expect at tryouts?

A: Tryout formats vary according to age groups. Our Director of Coaching and trainers will observe the tryout sessions. There generally will be 2 sessions for each age group. Unless otherwise advised by the club’s trainers, players are to attend both sessions. This gives the players the best chance to impress the selectors and allows the selectors to make comparisons and the best possible decisions. The format will be fundamental assessments, small-sided games progressing into full field games.

Q: How will I be notified regarding team selection / acceptance?

A: At the conclusion of the tryout session(s) the coaches, trainers and evaluators will work in conjunction with the Director of Coaching and Player Development to place players on current teams and to build new teams where numbers and ability level support those decisions. Players will be notified of their status via email, or called directly by the head coach. Allocation (team placement) emails should begin going out 1-2 weeks after the conclusion of our tryout sessions and will continue until teams are completed. In addition, players not being offered spots will receive emails announcing their status as soon as possible and continuing until all teams are completed.

Q: Does the club offer “Supplemetary Tryouts” if i’m not immediately selected?

A: At any time, at the discretion of the team trainer, a new player may be invited to a team training session with the possibility of adding them to the roster. The Directors of Coaching and the trainer for that team will make the final decision regarding any additions to any roster.

Q: What kind of commitment is involved with playing club soccer?

A: Most teams train 2X a week, in addition to club skills, which we call “TDP” or Technical Development Program. Each team competes in tournaments (typically 4-7 annually) as well as league play (Fall & Spring). Our primary league of play is SCDSL (Southern California Developmental Soccer League) and California State Soccer Association – South (Cal South) the official youth state soccer association of the United States Soccer Federation.
