FC Valencia – Updates during COVID-19 (May 20, 2020)

Greetings to all the FC Valencia Coaching Staff, Administrators, players, families and friends;
We hope this finds everyone healthy, safe and staying strong as we embark on the Memorial Day weekend during the COVID-19 pandemic. We realize everyone is anxious to get back to some level of normalcy – whether it be a socially distanced summer barbecue, working out at the beach, soccer or anything in between.
We are in regular contact with Cal South and Coast Soccer League regarding the status of fall activities, timelines and requirements for eventual play in the Fall gaming circuits. District 4 is primarily affected by the more restrictive Los Angeles County regulations who recently suggested a possible July 4 target date for some degree of reopening – of course, depending upon the COVID-19 numbers in the county. To that end, we are also participating in a Return to Play Task Force (composed of clubs and affiliates) that has been convened by our District 4 (LA County) Commissioner for Cal South.
The purpose of this Task Force is to work together toward a common goal to formalize a set of recommendations, strategies and timelines for returning to play, when permitted, for District 4 clubs/affiliates. All of this is focused on safety and in accordance with the State of California’s Stay-At-Home-Order and Resilience Roadmap as well as guidelines established by the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) and the California Department of Public Health.
Regardless of rumors that may be circulating, it is important to understand that the suspension of Cal South programs and competition activities continues until further notice. The suspension covers all Cal South events and sanctioned activities including, but not limited to, State Cup, National Cup, California Regional League, Pacific Conference, Adult State Cup, Golden Valley Soccer League play, as well as any ODP Programming, Coaching Education Courses, and Referee Courses. Other activities sanctioned by Cal South such as practices, tournaments, camps, etc., are also suspended in accordance with the guidelines for social distancing as established by local, state and national agencies and health organizations.
Cal South wants to make clear that as of now, training, tryouts and any other in-person activity has not been opened up for anyone. Cal South is actively working with the State and local governments to get more clarity on when that might happen but as of now we are being asked to be sure to adhere to any government orders that are currently in place. It is important to note that all clubs are not covered by Cal South insurance if anyone engages in these activities outside of this protocol.
We are hopeful that this uncertainty will become clearer within the next few weeks and we will definitely keep you updated. It is requested that you circulate this information among your families so that they are aware of where we hope to be going…and, in the meantime, continue to engage with your coaches and teammates in Zoom meetings and classrooms… when we return to the field, it may look very different but it will be AWESOME to actually see each other outside of a computer screen.
In the meantime, we are thinking about all of you and hoping that everyone is staying healthy and safe.
